Our name, Aalto, is derived from the Finnish word for “waves,” which speaks to our love and respect for the ocean and the bounty it provides. We draw inspiration from the beauty and power of the sea, which is reflected in our menu, decor, logo and overall ambiance. Just as waves come in different shapes and sizes, our menu features a diverse range of dishes that highlight the unique flavours and textures of different types of ingredients. Our team of skilled chefs uses the freshest ones to create dishes from dishes to savoury meat options, both innovative and comforting, paying homage to the traditions of the Mediterranean cuisine while also pushing boundaries.
Welcome to Aalto, located in the breathtaking Blue Grotto, on the southern coast of Malta. Blue Grotto is a natural wonder that is famous for its brilliant blue waters and dramatic sea caves. Visitors to Blue Grotto can take a boat tour of the area, exploring the stunning rock formations, like the Elephant’s Foot which inspired our logo, as well as the other sea caves that have been shaped by the waves over time. In the distance, you’ll also see Filfla, a small uninhabited islet that adds to the charm and beauty of the area.

We created a seasonal menu as well as a daily one with our Specials, using only the fresh products sold on daily basis from our suppliers.
Kurt, co-owner and director, is a chef who has worked in a 1 Michelin-starred restaurant in London as well as in 5-star hotels in Malta. He graduated from ITS and brings his passion for quality ingredients and innovative techniques to Aalto’s menu.
Dimitris Haskaj, the Restaurant manager, has over a decade of experience in the hospitality industry. He has worked in Greece, Germany, and Malta, accumulating experience in 5* hotels in Malta and fine dining restaurants. He graduated from ITS with a degree in Hospitality Management, which enables the team to create a pleasant and unique experience for all our guests.
Cliff Busuttil, the Head Chef, believes that all ingredients deserve the same respect, from a simple clove to the rarest truffle. He strives to use ingredients when they are in season or preserve them for future use. His culinary ideas and techniques are expressed through our menu and kitchen team, creating a memorable dining experience.
